Where Part 1 Ends, Part 2 Begins
According to trade sources and story analysis, Ramayan Part 1 is expected to cover the narrative from Ram's early life in Ayodhya through his exile to the Dandaka Forest, culminating in the abduction of Sita by Ravana. The arrival of Hanuman in Lanka is expected to be the bridge between the two parts.
Part 2 will then cover the construction of Ram Setu, the great war in Lanka, Ravana's defeat, Sita's Agni Pariksha, and Ram's triumphant return to Ayodhya — the event that Diwali celebrates.
Diwali 2027 Release
Part 2 is confirmed for a Diwali 2027 release. The choice is thematically perfect — Part 2 will tell the story of Ram's return to Ayodhya, which is the very event that Diwali commemorates. Audiences will watch Ram come home on the same day the entire nation celebrates his homecoming.
Why Two Parts?
Nitesh Tiwari has spoken about why splitting the Ramayan into two films was essential rather than a commercial decision. The Ramayan is too vast and too sacred to compress into a single film. Each part reportedly runs approximately 3 hours, giving the story a total runtime of around 6 hours — enough space to honour every major episode of the epic without rushing through its emotional and spiritual depth.
The Key Characters and Arcs of Part 2
Part 2 is where the war narrative dominates — but it is also where the most complex emotional journeys conclude. Here is what audiences can expect from the second film's major character arcs:
- Hanuman (Sunny Deol): After his devastating entry in Lanka at the end of Part 1, Hanuman becomes the emotional and military backbone of Part 2 — leading the Vanara army, serving as Ram's messenger, and his fearlessness in battle.
- Ravana (Yash): Part 2 is where Ravana's complexity reaches its fullest expression. His refusal to return Sita despite every warning, his interactions with his loyal brother Vibhishana, and his final confrontation with Ram are the sequences that Yash has reportedly poured his greatest intensity into.
- Sita (Sai Pallavi): The Agni Pariksha (trial by fire) and Sita's ultimate assertion of her own dignity are among the most emotionally significant scenes Sai Pallavi has to portray.
- Ram (Ranbir Kapoor): The culmination of Ram's journey — from exiled prince to victorious king — comes full circle. Ram's return to Ayodhya on the day of Diwali is the moment the entire two-part saga has been building toward.
Box Office Expectations for Part 2
If Part 1 performs as predicted — crossing ₹500 crore India net in its theatrical run — Part 2's opening is projected to be even larger. The precedent is clear: Baahubali 2 opened to ₹121 crore, significantly higher than Baahubali: The Beginning's ₹35 crore opening. The reason: Part 1 created pent-up demand for the conclusion that made Part 2 a guaranteed event for everyone who had seen Part 1.
Ramayana Part 2 has an added advantage: Part 1 ends at arguably the most emotionally devastating moment of the entire Ramayana — the abduction of Sita. That cliffhanger, experienced in a cinema with 500 other people, will create an audience hunger for Part 2 that no marketing campaign could manufacture artificially. Diwali 2027 is, for those reasons, potentially the single most anticipated release date in Indian cinema history by the time Part 1 is done.
