The Search for Lakshman

Finding someone to play Lakshman — Ram's fiercely loyal younger brother — proved to be one of the most challenging casting decisions in the entire production. According to casting director Mukesh Chhabra, the search took months because several established Bollywood actors turned down the role, unwilling to play what they perceived as a secondary character alongside Ranbir Kapoor's Ram.

Chhabra's team auditioned over 200 actors before Ravi Dubey's name entered the conversation. The decision to look beyond established film actors and consider television talent proved to be a turning point.

Ravi Dubey is best known for his work in Indian television — shows like Jamai Raja, Udaariyaan, and the critically acclaimed web series Matsya Kaand established him as an actor with serious dramatic range. What he brings to Lakshman is a combination of physical intensity, emotional depth, and a natural on-screen warmth that mirrors the brotherly bond the role demands.

His chemistry with Ranbir Kapoor during screen tests reportedly convinced Nitesh Tiwari immediately. The director has described their dynamic as "instinctive — they feel like brothers without trying."

He has been preparing with rigorous physical training, archery sessions, and study of the Ramayan text to bring authenticity to every scene.
